Pregnancy, Hypnobirthing and the Postnatal Period

HOW TO GROW, BIRTH AND NURTURE YOUR BABY IS HARD WIRED INTO YOUR BRAIN THROUGH MILLIONS OF YEARS OF EVOLUTION - YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THIS.  BUT MODERN LIFE AND THINKING OFTEN MEAN WE STRUGGLE TO TAP INTO THAT DEEP KNOWING THAT IS IN US ALL - I CAN HELP YOU, THROUGH HYPNOTHERAPY YOU CAN ACCESS THIS ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE AND SELF BELIEF

As a Midwife of 24 years (recently retired) and a facilitator by nature, I watched women and their partners transform during the experience of having a child - this transformation is most powerful when parents learn to bypass fear and tension and access a place of inner strength and calm. For an expectant mum accessing this place can help with issues such as high blood pressure, pain perception, labour progress, breastfeeding and bonding with our baby.

There is no substitute for the care of your midwife and health professionals.  However,  non-medical elements around childbirth, such as water birth, home birth and Hypnobirthing are now recognised and accepted methods to support effective and self-empowered labour and birth.

There are many things that influence pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.

Hormonal changes, pre-existing conditions and conditions of pregnancy influence your body and experiences.  Issues such as morning sickness and hypertension and labour can be helped by hypnotherapy.

Equally, in the postnatal period, hormonal issues, conditions and fatigue can affect breastfeeding, bonding with your baby and mood.

ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE AFFECTED BY PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS SUCH AS FEAR AND TENSION.

Morning Sickness

  â€‹

Morning sickness is influenced by the presence of pregnancy hormones, but most of us know that  just thinking about feeling sick or being sick can actually create those feelings.  Hypnotherapy deals with these elements whilst your body settles down in the second trimester.

High Blood Pressure

There are many causes for high blood pressure in pregnancy.  Hypnotherapy deals with relaxation and self hypnosis resources after therapy.

Hypnobirthing

Devised for couples or single therapy hypnosis focuses on empowering and relaxation techniques, dealing with each phase of labour. It uses re-phrasing mechanisms to alter negative self speak to positive e.g. pre labour warm up rather than false labour.  Special circumstances instead of complications - the devil really is in he detail when it comes to how thoughts make you feel.  Releasing fear suggestions e.g of a pause in labour or unexpected circumstances to help maintain a calm frame of mind. It includes self hypnosis resources for you in labour.

Pre-term Labour

Pre-term labour can be planned and hypnotherapy can focus on preparing to welcome a baby earlier than expected and countering anxiety and fear.

Bonding with baby/breastfeeding

This is a work for many parents and can be challenging, especially after a complicated birth.  Hypnosis works on overcoming any difficult experience and tapping into a parent's natural nurturing abilities.

Anxiety or trauma from a difficult birth can create a psychological barrier to the let down process.
