How Hypnotherapy Works

We all know we have a conscious and subconscious mind.

The higher thinking, conscious part of our brain (the pre-frontal cortex) is the home of reason; logic and decision making.

The subconscious mind houses memories, instincts, behavioural patterns and emotions.   Emotional and behavioural problems have their root here.  The subconscious is powerful and harbours beliefs and feelings that you are generally not aware of.   This is why it is possible to lack understanding as to why you believe or feel certain things.

Many phobias, such as a fear of heights, spiders, holes; stairs etc come from your subconscious mind.  They are aimed at protecting you from danger to ensure your survival.  However, they sometimes get out of control.  Suggestions in hypnosis work to dampen down these fight, flight and freeze mechanisms.

In hypnosis, the receptive frame of mind that is achieved (theta brainwave sates) creates a path to the powerful subconscious mind, that is always listening to what you tell it.  The therapy goals we agree upon are turned into suggestions by me and the subconscious responds to what is said.

This is the mechanism by which behaviours are modified

This is why how we talk internally about ourselves matters.

Your mind does not distinguish between good and bad messages, it is here where hypnosis for self esteem and a strong internal voice can work on changing the messages we send to our subconscious about ourselves.
